Mining has only been vaguely hinted at on The Rim. We know that both Kira and Maxx were assigned to a mining colony. In the proof of concept, Maxx has an argument with a miner, who we can assume was there with some minor friends.
Just like its terrestrial counterpart, mining on the rim is hard and thankless work. Miners tend to work hard, play hard, and see themselves as a breed apart from regular people. As depicted so far, they’re not too far removed personality-wise from the Dwarves in Lord of the Rings with a touch of outlaw biker gang thrown in.
